FOX and Marvel’s Deadpool was one of this year’s surprise box-office smashes, but that apparently wasn’t enough to convince director Tim Miller to stay on for the sequel. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Miller has quit the production over what insiders say are creative differences with the film’s star, Ryan Reynolds.
Though the pair worked closely with screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to make the first film such an unexpected success, reports indicate that the balance of power on set has shifted and Reynolds has taken more control of the production. Aside from starring in the original film, Reynolds served as a producer and helped to define the overall tone of FOX’s newest branch of the X-Men franchise.
In any case, life will go on. Deadpool 2 is currently testing six actresses for the part of female lead Domino, and a project of this magnitude shouldn’t have much trouble finding a new director soon. As for Miller, he can now turn his attention toward working with Fox on Influx, an adaptation of a sci-fi novel by David Suarez.
